Convert SRT to VTT or plain text.

Use VTT captions with web video, or extract dialogue as TXT for notes and editing. Conversion runs in this tab, without an account or file upload.

UTF-8 SRT only. One file, up to 500 KB (500,000 bytes) and 5,000 cues. Keep a copy of your original.

VTT keeps cue numbers and exact timing, ordered by start time. TXT keeps the original dialogue order and line breaks, without cue numbers or timing. Both remove basic SRT styling; other markup stays as literal text.

The file name and subtitle text stay in this tab and are not uploaded or saved by these tools. Anonymous usage counts may be sent; they contain no subtitle text or file names. Privacy and analytics

How to convert your SRT file

  1. Choose a UTF-8 SRT file or paste its text. You can try the example first.
  2. Select VTT or TXT and convert. Correct structural errors before downloading; review any warnings.
  3. Preview and download your new file. Keep the original SRT for future translation or timing edits.
What changes when SRT becomes VTT?

A WEBVTT header is added, timestamp milliseconds use a dot, and cues are ordered by start time. Timing values and cue numbers are retained. Text characters are escaped for WebVTT so they display literally.

Does TXT keep timestamps or bilingual dialogue?

TXT removes the cue numbers and timing rows. It retains all dialogue lines, including both languages in a bilingual SRT, and separates cues with a blank line. It does not translate, summarize, merge sentences or remove repeated dialogue.

What happens to styles and special characters?

Both outputs remove b, i, u, s and font tags, and decode common named or valid numeric character entities once. Other tags and ASS control strings remain literal text. VTT removes empty lines left by styling. No fonts, colours, positioning or effects are reproduced.

Can I convert videos, ASS or VTT files here?

This tool accepts SRT only. It does not transcribe video or audio, translate subtitles, or convert ASS/VTT back to SRT. Preview the exported VTT in your intended player before publishing.
